Most organizations are not prepared for a crisis event, no matter how prepared they think they are. If you aren't prepared, what do you do during an event and after the event to improve for next time? Forty percent of businesses do not reopen after a disaster and another 25 percent fail within one year according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Similar statistics from the United States Small Business Administration indicate that over 90 percent of businesses fail within two years after being struck by a disaster.

The reality is ever business experiences some sort of crisis event every five years. Jason Mefford discusses with Ralph Petti what organizations can do now while we are still in crisis mode and what to do after, including how to "re-open" and get your organizations back on track from the COVID-19 pandemic, so your organization doesn't end up in the 40% of business that could fail.

Ralph Petti, MBCI, CBCP, GRCP is the Principal, Operations at Readiness Associates, LLC. As a certified risk manager, Ralph holds credentials in several disciplines of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery and has a unique certification in Governance, Risk & Compliance. In being involved in the planning and recovery of over 500 disaster events, Ralph has conducted pandemic planning on-site in Southeast Asia and has clients on four continents. He was provided a letter of recognition from a US Senator for his efforts in the recovery of several Gulf Region weather events and is a frequent speaker in national media events. He has been on the front lines helping organizations get through, learn and recover from some of the largest international crisis events including: September 11th, Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, and the tsunamis in Fukushima and Indonesia.
