KARL
Kaplan's AuditNet Resource List
The Story
Kaplan's AuditNet® Net Resource List aka KARL is the most comprehensive list of Internet resources for auditors and accountants available on the Internet via email, ftp, newsgroups, Listserv, and the World Wide Web. In August 1994, Jim Kaplan, the Author of The Auditor's Guide to Internet Resources, began distributing the AuditNet Resource List to financial professionals around the world. Kaplan searches the Internet for audit related sites and visits each one before including it in KARL. Each site included in KARL provides a descriptive title of the site, the Internet address (URL) and a brief abstract describing the site. The primary audience for the resources is practicing auditors, accountants and financial professionals. Jim uses KARL as a teaching and demonstration tool when speaking at professional conferences and seminars across the U.S. It is referenced in academic research texts and is also used by professors as a teaching tool for audit and accounting students. It is used by auditors around the world in order to facilitate locating resources specific to professionals in the business and government financial sectors. Many auditors in fact have used KARL as a justification to management as a reason to connect based on the variety of related resources available in cyberspace.
The hypertext version of KARL is available in two formats. The first is the standard alpha format with an index for users to quickly go to a specific alpha reference. There is also an subject index version of KARL available on the AuditNet site at http://www.auditnet.org
KARL is updated monthly with resource additions, modifications and deletions. The complete email version of KARL is available directly from Jim Kaplan (jmkaplan@ix.netcom.com) or on the AuditNet Home Page. Kaplan sends monthly updates to KARL to subscribers.
KARL users are reminded with each distribution that the information content depends on the type of site accessed and should be considered carefully when using for audit purposes. Many of the sites included in KARL have established reciprocal links. The content of audit related Web sites continues to provide auditors and accountants with a reason to connect to the Internet.
