Dig Deeper!
Wa’el uses a full page to list qualifications. While qualifications are the meat of resumes, Wa’el should devote no more than one quarter of the page to the most desired credentials. Information in the current “executive profile” could be fleshed out and used as achievements under each applicable work experience. Wa’el wisely indicates his credentials after his name; the education and professional designations can be shifted to page two.
Dig deeper in detailing work experience for each position. Avoid
sounding like a job description; instead, for each position, determine
what you did, how you did, and the results. Quantify wherever possible;
how many auditors did you recruit? Did you do anything once you
identified training needs? Did you establish and launch the first
internal auditing department? Did you grow it and if so, to what? What
were the outcomes? Did you identify fraud and if so, did you recover
funds or close a vulnerable gap? Always bear in mind that organizations
have problems to solve; they want to know what you have done and what
you can do for them.
Resumes should fit on two pages. One-inch margins all around will help only if Wa’el makes full use of the space and avoids indentations. Choose fonts in sizes 11-point and 12-point. Watch sentence structure and punctuation; each sentence should end with a period. Whatever format you choose, be consistent. Lastly, bear in mind the sole purpose of your resume; load it with qualifications and achievements that match job requirements and employers will be eager to get in touch.
