AuditNet Book ReviewPowerPoint 2003 Personal Trainer and Excel 20003 Personal Trainer A personal trainer is one who works with individuals on a one to one basis to help that individual gain confidence and improve their quality of life. Auditors have been using computerized spreadsheets since the introduction of personal computers. PowerPoint presentations using computers are increasing used more and more by today’s connected auditors. The Microsoft Office Suite is a standard application for most audit departments and auditors are increasingly relying on Excel for data management and PowerPoint for presentations. Management expects staff to be able to use these automated tools for audit fieldwork and audit presentations. But are auditors (and their managers) really using these tools correctly and could they be utilized to a greater extent? The answer is that most auditors are only using a small percentage of the features available in both programs. To become truly efficient and effective at using software requires two key ingredients; training and practice. Two new publications from O’Reilly Computer Books, Excel 2003 and PowerPoint 2003 Personal Trainer, provide lessons and exercises with step by step instructions. Both of these Personal Trainer series books include an interactive CD-ROM that will help raise an auditor’s skill level for each of these standard programs. Adding these books to the audit department’s professional library and requiring staff to use them should result in greater effectiveness and staff efficiency using these essential automated tools.
