Internal auditors cannot stand by and watch as the business world embraces new technology, The tools and technique used in the past are no longer adequate; we need to re-stock our toolboxes with a variety of software to meet the challenges of auditing in today’s business environment.

Now in it’s third edition, CAATTs (Computer Assisted Audit Tools and Techniques) and other BEASTS (Beneficial Electronic Audit Support Tools) for Auditors is a classic reference work for auditors in the use of technology in auditing. Dave Coderre’s coverage of this topic is presented in a straightforward easy to understand format. A lack of technical jargon makes this book an easy read. The first part of the book provides a history and evolution of CAATTs. The next section covers all aspects of computer technology in auditing. The author discusses in depth the benefits and opportunities of CAATTs, tips for accessing the data and testing and developing the capabilities required for implementing CAATTs. The book is timeless and provides valuable insight into what auditors need to do to utilize new tools. While IT auditors will find the book interesting I would highly recommend that all auditors read CAATTs and Other BEASTS. Only when all auditors recognize the value of integrating automated tools will we see the universal benefits associated with technology. This book should be a standard reference in every internal audit department library. Additionally it should be required reading for every student and auditor.
